Food Sufficiency: Akwa Ibom State Govt Crashes Price Of Garri
As part of Governor Udom Emmanuel’s efforts towards making the state food sufficient, the Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Glory Edet, today, flagged off a campaign for the sale of garri at three (3) cups for #100
A flag-off ceremony which took place at the Ministry of Agriculture grounds, Idongesit Nkanga Secretariat, witnessed a large turnout of persons within and outside Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.
Setting the tone for the event, Dr. Edet noted that Governor Udom Emmanuel remains passionate about the plight of citizens of the state brought about by the recent slight increase in the price of garri and other food commodities.
She added that the garri that was sold today at a subsidized rate was a deliberate effort by Government to ameliorate the sufferings of its people.
She informed the public that the garri which was sold today at three cups for 100 naira is a product of Government’s intense cultivation of cassava and is strictly for sale to households while also noting that the exercise will continue at the Secretariat and some markets.

In his remarks, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Trade and Market Matters, Mr. Idorenyin Raphael, appreciated Governor Udom Emmanuel for “his huge investment in Agriculture” which he noted has bore tangible dividends and appreciated Dr. Edet for working hard to adequately interpret the Governor’s vision for the sector.
