The Speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey through his Foundation, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey Youth Entrepreneurship Support Scheme (RHAB-YESS) has continued in its avowed commitment to stimulate small scale businesses in the state and support students educational pursuit in its 19th and 20th edition entrepreneurship empowerment program.

This was disclosed yesterday during the RHAB-YESS ‘Meet and Greet’ session with winners of the 19th and 20th edition of the empowerment competition at the House of Assembly Complex.

The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey said the program is a platform to encourage small scale businesses and provide a seed fund to grow their businesses.

The Speaker who was represented by the Director of Account, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Sir Jeremiah Efe who in turn was represented by Mr. Mbosowo Essien advised beneficiaries to use the money judiciously in their respective businesses and create opportunities for others.

“I advise that you should sow the seed fund given to you on a fertile ground so the harvest can be bountiful.”

The Special Guest of the event, Akwa Ibom Queen of Culture and Tourism, Miss Otobong Precious thanked the Speaker for the programme and urged the beneficiaries to take good advantage of the opportunity and multiply it for others to benefit.

According to the Manager of the programme and his Special Assistant on Media/Communication, Mr. Darlington Udobong, said the 19th and 20th edition of the empowerment programme increases the number of Small Scale Businesses (SMEs) benefitting from the programme since inception to 59.

He also added that there are eight students selected across the state who are beneficiaries of the Scholarship scheme of the programme.

Meanwhile, about 28 artisans have been trained in various vocations from oil/gas wielding, wood work, automobile, etc; and 383 Special support have been given to women, youth in the state.

In the 19th Edition of the empowerment programme, Anietie Emmanuel Udo emerged as the star winner with N250,000; Maurice Ubong with 150,000 as 1st runner up and Liberty Ubong as 2nd runner up with N100,000.

The 20th edition of RHAB-YESS has Glory Job Ernest as a star winner with N250,000; Nyabuk Eberefiak with 150,000 as 1st runner up and Emmanuel Anthony with N100,000 as 2nd runner up.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Glory Job Ernest thanked the organisers and promised to inject the funds into their respective businesses.

Other members of the RHAB-YESS team present included; the Chief of Staff to the Speaker, Mr Charles Iwat; Personal Assistant to the Speaker, Godswill Bassey.

Also present was Pst. Aniefiok Tom, the Chief of Staff to the Chairman of Uruan LGA, Queen Otobong Precious – Queen of Culture and Tourism, Akwa Ibom State.
