2021 Safe Motherhood Celebration Day: Ekpeyong Reiterates Commitment to Health Care Service Delivery
In observance of safe motherhood day celebration, the Executive Chairman, Uruan Local Government Area, Hon. Surv. Iniobong Ekpenyong , has reiterated his commitment to ensuring that all women have access to the information and services they need to go safely through pregnancy and childbirth in the area.
Ekpenyong stated this when he played host to the Akwa Ibom state Ministry of Health in collaboration with TY DANJUMA foundation anchored by Antof Rural Resources and Development Centre (AARDEC) at Women Development Centre, Idu-Uruan.
He commended all partners of the safe motherhood initiative, especially Antof Rural Resources and Development Centre, noting that Uruan Local Government Council has already keyed into this vision, which healthcare was part of his administration 7point agenda.
“I encourage prospective mothers to register for antenatal care in hospitals, Primary Health Care Centres for regular checkups, avoid patronizing untrained personnel and as well as getting prescriptions from them to avoid damage to the foetus. I wish to also advise prospective pregnant women to visit a functional Primary Health Centre if they experience high fever with or without abdominal pain or feel too weak to get out of bed.

“Let me also say that there are some other factors that could hinder safe motherhood, which are: fast or difficulty in breathing, decrease or absence of fetal movement and excessive vomiting”, Ekpenyong said.
The Council helmsman further charged parents, guardians, NGO’s, Associations, and notable bodies to see safe motherhood as a collective dream which could be achieved. He noted that its administration was open for innovative ideas from Uruan Sons and Daughters at home and diaspora to provide a sustainable project that would add value to the people.
The 2021 safe motherhood day celebration had the theme Improving demand, access and utilization of maternal services in the context of COVID19 pandemic.
The event had in attendance, the Honourable commissioner for health, represented by Dr. Bassey Sunday Akpan, the Vice Chairman, Uruan Local Government, Hon Uduak Udoenang, wife of the Executive Chairman, Mrs Ndifreke Iniobong, Leader, Uruan 7th Legislative Council, Hon Sunday Bassey, & Councilors, Hon. Loveth Etim, Hon. Mfon Otu, Hon Affiong Okon.
Others were; director of health Uruan LG, Mrs Rose Ukut, Representative, TY DANJUMA foundation, rep. Akwa Ibom state primary healthcare, the director of health, Local Government Service Commission, Mrs Stella Etim, Safe motherhood partners, Coordinators of safe motherhood, Facility heads, Coordinator, reproductive health unit, Mins.of health, Mrs grace Okon, amongst others.
